GO PACK GO!

Leif Erikson Day is an annual observance that occurs on October 9. It honors Leif Erikson (Old Norse: Leifr Eiríksson), the Norse explorer who, in approximately 1000, led the first Europeans believed to have set foot on continental North America (other than Greenland).
Leif Erikson Day was officially proclaimed as a holiday in 1964. The date of October 9 was chosen to commemorate the anniversary of the day in 1825 when a group of Norwegian immigrants arrived in the US as part of what's considered to be the first large migration of Scandinavian people to the US. #brillionlions

On Friday, October 13th, fourth-grade students will be participating in a walkathon to create awareness for cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, it is estimated that there will be 1,958,310 new cases in 2023 alone - that’s about 5,365 new cases a day! Our students want to take a stand against cancer. They will have 30 minutes to complete as many laps around the track as possible. The money raised will be split between two nonprofit organizations: Ribbon of Hope in De Pere & Wisconsin Ovarian Cancer Alliance in New Berlin with donations in honor of staff members’ names who are battling cancer this year.
If you are interested in sponsoring a student in this event, please email Tracy Hause (thause@brillionsd.org), and you will be assigned to a fourth grader who needs a sponsor. You can choose to either donate a flat fee or a specific amount per lap. All money is due by no later than Friday, October 20th. Checks can be made to Brillion Elementary PTO. Thank you for considering the opportunity to support our students in this event. #brillionlions
